Welcome to the Simple Life in the Country blog. My husband Dave and I bought our home in Northwest Washington in 2011. We have been slowly turning our 5 acres into a homestead/small hobby farm. The home we purchased was a foreclosure and needed an unbelievable amount of work. Over the years we have been slowly working on making it our home. A home we love and want to spend each and everyday living in it.
About Me:
I grew up in a small town in Washington state, located in the middle of nowhere and an hour away from any other town.
Growing up, my mom would grow and preserve as much of our own food as she could. My dad would hunt and fish. We had chickens, turkeys and at one point even had a pig. I would spend hours running around outside with my brother and friends and only go inside for meals.
I have a passion for gardening and creating things with my hands. I love to dig in the dirt, walk around outside without shoes and just be out in nature.
I am drawn to the idea of living a more simple life despite working outside of the home full time. My heart is here at home. Cooking, cleaning, taking care of all of our animals and turning this place into a place we want to come home too. Each year we improve the property, add more and more animals and expand the gardens and learn different ways to preserve our food.
Fun Facts About Me:
We have 5 miniature Dachshunds.
I am a crazy chicken lady. Started with only wanting 10, 3 years ago. By year 3, I am up to 49.
I have an obsession with Spice of Life Corningware. They are the true workhorses of my kitchen and get used daily.
Fall is my absolute favorite season. The colors, smells, pumpkins and the promise of a slower life leading into winter.
I love to read. I enjoy books about homesteading, cooking from scratch, DIY recipes and simple decor.
I love to go to thrift stores and antiques stores.
