Christmas is over. You are wanting to put all of your Christmas decorations away and you are afraid your home will be bare and blah. Decorating your house with Cozy Winter Decor brings life to your space in the dead of winter. I find it very important for me to decorate a bit after Christmas, as it does help with my mood and spirit in January.
I have some cozy winter decor ideas for you
The first thing I will suggest, is when you are taking down your Christmas decorations, is to leave up all of your greenery and any decorations that are not directly related to Christmas. So this would be any greenery that is draped all over the hutches. The wreaths on the front door. I am leaving up all of the bells, candle sticks and even the snowmen in the theater room. The snowmen, I will take down at the end of January, maybe even the end of February if the weather is bad.
If you made the Orange Slice Garland or the Star Garland that I wrote about in December, I would suggest leaving them up too. They add a whole new level of winter coziness and they just make me happy.
Adding some greens from outside
I love to pull items from nature and bring them in the house. As you know, in January in the Pacific Northwest, not a lot is growing. But, we still have some evergreen trees and bushes. So I took a stroll around the property to see what I could find. I clipped some branches off of the trees. I also clipped some twigs off of the alder trees. Lastly, I clipped a few branches off of the bushes in front of our house.
This brings in some beautiful color with the greens and some different textures with the twigs. Bringing in the fresh greenery, helps us be closer to nature, all while the weather outside is cold and wet.
The front entry table is the best place for cozy winter decor
The main area that I like to decorate for winter is our front entry way table. After taking away the Christmas decorations, I left the green garland draped in the back. I also changed out the table runners to a red table runner and place a smaller cream colored table runner with a crocheted edge on top of it.
I love to use a variety of water pitchers in our decorations. They are perfect for any season. I like to decorate in threes. I added three pitchers to the middle of the entry way table. Then I took the twigs and greens for m the bushes out front and added them to the taller middle pitcher.
The two smaller pitchers, I added the branches off of the evergreen trees. I love the simplicity and texture of it all.
For our mantle shelves
I took down any decorations that screamed Christmas. This is where I left the Orange Slice Garland, candle sticks and bells. I also left up some of the stars that I had leftover from making the Star Garland.
Have fun with your Cozy Winter Decor! There is no wrong or right way to decorate and do whatever makes you happy.
